At Think Like a Pony, working with ponies is also a journey of self-discovery. We don’t just teach children to ride – we teach them to connect, communicate, and work in partnership with ponies through empathy, respect, and trust, which embodies the Think Like a Pony ethos.

Respect for Self

Respect for Others

Responsibility
Our approach goes beyond traditional horsemanship by helping children gain confidence, emotional balance, and independence as they learn to handle, ride, and care for ponies. Through hands-on experience and reflection, they develop clear communication and build trust to form meaningful relationships with both ponies and people. As children become more aware of how their breathing, intention, body language, and planning affect their pony, they deepen their understanding and connection.
We empower children to become calm, confident leaders for their ponies by developing emotional resilience, empathy, and a deep understanding of ethical horsemanship and animal welfare. Through relationship-based learning, children not only gain horsemanship skills but also grow into more grounded, self-aware, and capable individuals.
We show that training based on respect, understanding, and connection isn’t just possible – it is essential for the well-being of ponies and the people who care for them.
Our centres in Leeds and the Southwest, along with our online platform, reach families, schools, and instructors across the UK and beyond. By partnering with councils, schools, and NHS mental health services, we ensure that every child, regardless of background, can access this life-changing education.
